Tips for Pacifier Weaning

Being a Mom we usually think when will be the best time to wean our baby's pacifier. Even though we think we should wean their pacifier we don't know how to do it.

Here are some tips on how to remove your child's habit.
  1. Cut the Tip: Usually more moms are doing this trick. Parent's usually cutting off the tip of their child's pacifier. After the ability to suck is removed, many children quickly lose interest on it. We can motivate our child by telling that the their pacifier is broken and make them throw it away. If this doesn't do the trick you can try slicing a little part of the pacifier just to remove the sucking ability of the pacifier then let him try. Usually his the one who will tell you that it is broken. Show him that you cannot fix it or rather change it. Keep it for days until he doesn't show any interest.
  2. Swapping: Usually pacifier soothes your child emotion. Sometimes it gives them comfort, so I suggest try to swap or replace it with something more security. Try giving him a teddy bear or any stuff toy to comfort him when he is afraid. My child usually sleeps when he held his teddy he didn't even think of finding his pacifier.
  3.  Reducing: You can reduce the use of their pacifier. For example, give the pacifier when he is only inside the house. If your child is comfortable going out without his pacifier try to give the pacifier every time his going to sleep. Then continuously reducing it until he was totally fine. Be sure that your child will be comfortable each level before restricting him again.
  4. Trading: This is usually like swapping, but in this case you will create a condition to your child. For example, we will change your pacifier with your favorite character. You can bring him to the toy store for him to pick out the toy he want to exchange with his pacifier.
  5. Fairytale: Try telling him stories to exchange his pacifier. Like for example, the toothfairy story, Change the tooth to pacifier fairy. Let your child put his pacifier under the pillow and it will be replaced with a toy he always wanted the next morning.
  6. Lose: Try hiding the pacifier so that your child can't find them. You can go to a treasure hunt to find the pacifier. Let him find the pacifier at first. Then try it until they can't find it and they will give up.
  7. Decision: Let your child decide whether he wants to give up his pacifier or not. If he agrees, get him to throw it in the bin. And when he asks for it again, try to remind him that he has thrown it away.
