Measles
Measles is an infectious viral disease causing fever and a red rash on the skin, typically occurring in childhood. Measles is cause by Rubeola Virus that can destroy respiratory tract that can spread all over your kids body system. Rubeola, is also called the 10-day measles or red measles.
According to Dr. Ruby Constantino ng DOH, there are almost 2 million Filipino kids that are high risk of having measles due to lack of immunization.
Measles are airborne so it is easily transmitted to your child. Having your child regular vaccination will help them to catch this disease. Remember if there is also an outbreak, don't go to places that is crowded. And if you really need to go out remember to wash your hands and gargle when you got home before kissing or touching your child.

Signs of Measles
- High Fever which begins about 10-12 days after exposure to the virus, and lasts 4-7days
- Runny nose
- Dry Cough
- Inflamed Eyes
- Sore Throat
- Koplik's spots - it is a white small spots with bluish-white center. You can see these inside the lining of your kids mouth or cheek
- Rashes, usually on the face and upper neck. The rash lasts for 5-6 days, and then fades.
What to do??
- Give more water to your child so it wont be dehydrated
- Rest
- Drink paracetamol for fever
- Drink Vitamin A supplement
- Go to your doctor when
- Fever reaches 39 degrees Celsius
- when your kids got hallucinations
- When you can talk to your child properly
- Hard to breathe
- Severe Head ache
- Seizures
- Got problem in eye sight or hearing
Complication due to Measles
- Ear infection
- Diarrhea
- Pneumonia
- Encephalitis
