Blocking Foul

According to BasketBall How, "A Blocking foul is defined as contact which impedes the progress of movement of a player on offense, under the condition that, the player who is in danger of being called for a blocking foul does not have both feet on the ground, is moving forwards, or has placed themselves in the opponent’s path without giving them reasonable time to avoid contact." In other words this is a foul called on the defensive player when that player illegally impedes the progress of the offensive player with the ball.

Upon the assessment of a Blocking Foul, the player being charged with the foul receives a Personal Foul, their team receives a Team Foul , and the team of the player who was fouled will inbound the ball from the sideline; unless:
  • The player who was fouled was in the act of shooting, in which case they will receive 2 Free Throws if they were shooting a 2 point shot, and 3 Free Throws if they were shooting a 3 point shot
  • The team of the player who committed the Blocking Foul is over their Team Foul limit, in which case the player who was fouled will shoot 2 Free Throws.
