¢Guard
—Point guard
¢The point guard, also known as the “1”, is the team’s floor general and the best ball handler on the team.
¢A.K.A the “2”
¢Usually the team’s best shooter
¢A quality shooting guard should be able to consistently hit 20-foot/6-meter jump shots.
¢Must also have good ball-handling skills because they have to be able to create their own shot off the dribble.
¢Should able to make good passes.
¢Needs to be able to take long-shots, around the 3-point line
¢Needs to learn how to get free then take a shot
¢Forward
¢A.K.A the “3”
¢Typically shorter, quicker, and leaner than power forwards and centers, but on occasion are just as tall.
¢responsible for scoring points
¢secondary or tertiary rebounders behind the power forwards and centers
¢A.K.A the “4” position and abbreviated to “PF”
¢plays a role similar to that of center in the "post" or "low blocks“
¢He plays offensively with their back to the basket on offense and position themselves defensively under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward on defense in man-to-man defense.
¢Center
—plays in or around the free-throw lane near the basket (referred to as the "bottom of the key" or the "low post")
—tallest player
