Having a Child

Having a kids, I realized we cant complain, cry, be tired. If we complain, people will say "who told you to have kids?". If we cry, people will just say "Why are you crying? Who said having kids are easy?". And if we feel tired, people will say "Tired of what? Your only in the house and doing nothing." If you see me sleeping I always hear "You're lazy!" I sleep because I came for 8 hours shift plus 4 hours of travel. So basically I'm tired. When I was working, I keep hearing "who will take of your baby? The baby will grow to knowing that the nanny is his mother." When I quit my job to take care of my son, you say "How will you support your child?" So what do you really want me to do? Support my son or take care of my son? When I become a housewife, can't hear anything just "What is your wife doing? Always resting and just in room with kids". I'm not resting actually, I...

Pillows for your babies, Safe or Not?

Image
Zechariah Ethan on his first week When I gave birth to my son, most people around me suggest to remove those pillows, teddy bears or animal stuff toys, and bumpers because it may cause suffocation for my little boy. My friends also told me that there are chance for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID) for younger babies if I have pillows beside my babies crib. As a new parent, I follow some suggestions like removing those animal stuff toys in his crib. Why? Am I afraid of the SID? Maybe but I'm  much of concern about the dust that the toys will give to my baby. It can cause skin allergies to my baby or worst it can give him some bacteria. Having pillow helps him to sleep well. He likes it when two long pillows are beside him. I also notice that it helps him to breathe when his head is elevated by the pillow. I think having a pillow or not at a younger age will depend on the ability of the child and of course with the help of their parents. All babies are different an...

Tantrums

A tantrum is really about your toddler realizing that he or she is a separate person, with their own voice and views who does not want to be told what to do by anyone; not you, not his or her friends, not by relatives or even not by their grandparents. For this reason when your toddler feels he or she is losing control for any reason, they become overwhelmed by their feelings, and feel a flood of emotions, which triggers a tantrum. Claire B. Kopp, professor of applied developmental psychology at California's Claremont Graduate University, attributes much of the problem to uneven language skills. "Toddlers are beginning to understand a lot more of the words they hear, yet their ability to  produce  language is so limited," she says. When your child can't express how she feels or what she wants, frustration mounts. WHY YOUR CHILD HAS TANTRUMS? FATIGUE OR HUNGER When your child is very tired or hungry it is more likely he could get overwhelmed and go into a rag...

Fever Fears

A fever is a good thing. It means your child's immune system is doing it's job by fighting an underlying cold or another infection. The brain commands the body's temperature to rise, which in turn directs the white blood cells to attack and destroy invading viruses and bacteria. FIRST RESPONSE As a parent, what you should do about a fever depends largely on your child's age and the reading. If he's less than three months old, anything above 38ºC warrants a quick call to the doctor. Because an infants immune system isn't fully developed, he's vulnerable to potentially life-threatening infections like bacterial meningitis and pneumonia , and an elevated body temperature is often the only symptom. Between three and six months, your child needs to be examined by his pediatrician once his fever hits 38.3ºC, says Steven Shelov, M.D., editor-in-chief of American Academy of Pediatrics' Caring for your Baby and Young Child. Once your child is older t...

Infant to 3 Months

During your baby's first three months, there will be a lot of changes. At first, it may feel like an endless cycle of feeding, comforting and changing diapers. But soon, you'll settle into a routing and begin to delight in your baby's growth and development. Part of the wonder of parenting is watching, recognizing and reinforcing changes in your little bundle of joy. Most babies reach certain milestones at around the same age but infant development is not an exact science. Expect your baby to grow and develop at his own unique pace. As you get to know your baby, you should look out for these general infant development milestones. Newborns are sensitive to the way you hold, rock and feed them. By age 2 months, your baby may smile on purpose, blow bubbles and coo when you talk or gently play together. Your baby may even mimic your facial expressions. Soon your baby will reach for you when he or she needs attention, snuggling in your arms for security and comfort. MOTOR ...

Tips for Pacifier Weaning

Being a Mom we usually think when will be the best time to wean our baby's pacifier. Parent's usually cutting off the tip of their child's pacifier. After the ability to suck is removed, many children quickly lose interest on it. We can motivate our child by telling that the their pacifier is broken and make them throw it away. If this doesn't do the trick you can try slicing a little part of the pacifier just to remove the sucking ability of the pacifier then let him try. Usually his the one who will tell you that it is broken. Show him that you cannot fix it or rather change it. Keep it for days until he doesn't show any interest. Swapping : Usually pacifier soothes your child emotion. Sometimes it gives them comfort, so I suggest try to swap or replace it with ...

Alternative ways to boost baby's health

ENCOURAGE CRAWLING Crawling is an important gross motor milestone because it improves shoulder girdle muscle strength, abdominal muscle strength, and pelvic muscle strength. It also mimics the reciprocal movement of walking. Crawling not only ensures that your child develops well-aligned legs and knees for walking and running, but it also helps strengthen his shoulders for better control when it comes to tasks using the hands and arms, such as hand writing and even throwing a winning pitch. GO FOR A SWIM Every child is born with swimming reflex, wherein he automatically 'paddles' both arms and legs for propulsion when placed tummy down in the water. This disappears approximately after three months of age. However, playing in the water helps your child feel different sensations such as buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure, which in turn, facilitates movement as well as balance reactions. As you r child learns how to blow bubbles in the water or hold his breath when his hea...
