SYSTEM ANALYST


According to Wikipedia, systems analyst is an IT professional who specializes in analyzing, designing and implementing information systems. System analysts assess the suitability of information systems in terms of their intended outcomes and liaise with end users, software vendors and programmers in order to achieve these outcomes.

    • Help translate business requirements into IT projects

    • Plans, projects, develop schedules, and estimate costs
    • To keep managers informed, analysts conducts meetings, delivers presentations, and writes memos, reports and documentation

    • Understands business operations and processes
    • Needs good interpersonal skills to interact with people from operations to executives, including clients
    • Often an analyst leads an IT development team
    • As a team leader, analyst plans, estimates, and manages the project, and uses leadership and team-building skills to coach and motivate team members
    • Must attend training courses, both on-site or on-line
    • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a close related field
    • For higher positions, Master of Science and additional experience is required

      • Some positions are called systems analyst, but involve only programming or technical support
      • Others titled computer specialist, programmer, programmer/analyst, systems designer, software engineer, etc.
