Neural Tube Defects
Neural tube defects are birth defects of varying severity that result from disruptions in the development of the neural tube, which is the early stage of its spinal cord and nervous system. Failure of the neural tube to close properly can result in neural tube defects with some being mild and barely noticeable while others are 100% fatal
How can it be prevented?
Several observational studies showed that 50% or more of NTDs can be prevented if women consume a folic acid - before and during early weeks of pregnancy in addition to the folate in their diet.
