Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. Mula sa La Ilustracion Filipina. Miguel López de Legazpi  also known as El Adelantado  or El Viejo  (The Elder). He was a Basque Spanish navigator and governor who established the first Spanish settlement in the East Indies when his expedition crossed the Pacific Ocean from the Viceroyalty of New Spain in modern-day Mexico, and founded Cebu on the Philippine Islands in 1565. He was the first Governor-General of Spanish East Indies which included the Philippines and other Pacific archipelagos, namely Guam and the Marianas Islands. After obtaining peace with various indigenous nations and kingdoms, Miguel López de Legazpi made Manila the capital of the Spanish East Indies in 1571. The capital of the province of Albay in the Philippines, Legazpi City bears his name.  Ito ay binubuo ng isang malilibot na ruta sa dagat na kaagad na nasa timog ng punong lupain ng  Timog Amerika  at hilaga ng  Tierra del Fuego . Sa Tierra del Fuego nasubukan ang galing ni Magellan dahil sa ito ang pinakamahirap na daan sa kanyang expedisyon. Pinakamalahagang likas na daanan ang daanang-tubig na ito na nasa pagitan ng mga  Karagatang Pasipiko  at  Atlantiko , ngunit itinuturing na isang mahirap na rutang pangnabigasyon dahil sa hindi mahulaang mga gawi ng ihip ng hangin at mga daloy ng tubig, at dahil sa kakiputan ng lagusang ito. Isa itong daang lagusan magmula sa Karagatang Atlantiko patungo sa Karagatang Pasipiko. Pinangalanan ito mula kay  Fernando Magallanes , na kilala rin bilang  Ferdinand Magellan . 

Si Lapu-lapu ang pinuno ng Mactan na namuno sa pangkat na nakipaglaban at pumatay kay Magellan. Lubhang mahalaga ang pagwawagi ni Lapu-lapu kay Magellan. Napatunayan nito na hindi lahat ng Pilipino ay sang ayon sa pananakop ng mga dayuhan. Ang Magulang ni Lapu-lapu ay sina Kusgano at Inday Putti ngunit walang naitala  tungkol sa kapanganakan ni Lapu-lapu. Nag pakasal siya kay Prinsesa Bulakna na anak ni Datu Sabtano. Sila ay biniyayaan ng isang anak na pinangalanan nilang Sawili. Dahil may matagal nang alitan sa pagitan nina Zula at Lapu-lapu, inalok ni Zula na labanan niya si Lapu-lapu kung bibigyan lamang siya ni Magellan ng kawal. Ngunit tumangi si Magellan sa alok ni Zula at minabuti niyang siya na mismo ang makipaglaban kay Lapu-lapu. Kasama ang kanyang 100 tauhan, nilusob ni Magellan ang Mactan noong Abril 27, 1521. Sa labanang naganap, natalo ng pangkat ni Lapu-lapu ang mga Espanyol at natalo nya si Magellan nang tamaan niya ito sa kaliwang binti at sa huli at pinatay ni Lap...

Ang tinaguriang Kipot ni Magellan ang nagpasimula ng matagumpay na paglalakbay ni Ferdinand Magellan sa Pilipinas. Ang kahalagahan ng pulitika at ekonomiya sa Pilipinas ang umakit sa mga Espanyol upang sakupin ang Pilipinas. Kristiyanismo ang pinakamalaking impluwensya sa atin ng mga Espanyol. Si Ferdinand Magellan ang nakahanap ng bagong ruta patungong Silangan. Nagkaroon ng sanduguan sina Raja Kolambu at Magellan sa Limasawa upang ipakita nila ang kapayapaan at pakikipagkaibigan sa halip na digmaan. Si Raja Humabon ang pinuno ng Cebu na nakipagsanduguan kay Magellan. Si Humabon ang unang sa mga katutubong hari ng Pilipinas.
