Looks could kill
These days when fashion and fade continuously evolve, one can't help noticing the very way teener dress, behave and even talk. Some personalities seem to fit some teens but there are also those who try desperately to look good. Yes, there are teens who just seem to be too conscious of themselves. It is normal for a girl to have mirror inside her bag and use it when she fixes herself. But it is inappropriate and even funny for a boy to bring one. However, it is interesting to note that boys compensate by looking at any glass window or even side mirrors of cars whenever they feel like fixing themselves.
You would surely notice a friend, a classmate, or an acquaintance that just had a new haircut or a new set of clothes. These are some of the many ways that some people, especially teenagers, would get out of their way just to look good. There are teenagers who would sacrifice the usual just to look "new". From the hair down to the pair of shoes. And these are only some of the physical aspects a person can modify or change.
Some may go altering their features -- young girls putting on a heavy make-up, undergoing nose lift, and putting on the latest perfume costing hundreds of pesos. If we go down to the basics and start asking ourselves if we really need these things. If we need these in order to survive. If they are essential to our being human and Christian. We would come to the truth that we can do away with them, that is one can live with or without them.
Digging deeper, we find that these things may just be products of our fear being ignored, taken for granted or rejected. All in all it is due to our vanity and capriciousness.
Reason will tell us that we have to be contented with who we are. Changing our appearance or physical features would not make us a new person. No amount of physical change because God made us so.
Reason, practically and contentment should prevail in our hearts. It is not how we look that counts, but who we are in the eyes of God and others that matters most. It is normal for a teen to yearn to be good-looking but we should not over do it.
It is a lot easier and better to look natural for others to see. It makes us more like-able and approachable. let us be satisfied with ourselves and learn to live with what we have. It is great to be the real you.
