Price-cut Valentine's Date

These days, you've got to be practical. With the bad economy and all, even love has to take a price cut.

Things you can do for free
1. Visit her at home. Not only will her parents have peace of mind, but you even get a free meal. Bring some DVD's that you can watch and popcorn to microwave. Or whip up something in the kitchen, even if you both don't know how to cook.

Variation: Bring some cooked food from your place to her house. You need not to be a gourmet cook or you can ask your mom for help. To really get on her mom's good side, offer to drive her and her mom to the mall or super market.

2. Scan the newspapers and listen to the radio for free concerts and outdoor movies for free. Launchings of new products are also a good idea. You get not only free entertainment, but product samples to boot. The important thing is that you and your  date have a great time.

Variation: Join radio and essay-writing contests in newspapers to get free invites or free dinners.

3. Take her to a friend's party. That way, you get to stand some time with your friends, too. Chances are, she'd be delighted to meet your friends. be sure, though, to ask the host first if you can bring someone along and, unless it's been a long time since you're ex isn't going to be there.

A word of warning: Tell your friends beforehand not to say anything incriminating about you. It would not do for your bestfriend to inadvertently reveal that you have a crush on her bestfriend.

4. Invite her to a family dinner, or get her to invite you to hers. date to family reunions and holidays.

5. Visit museums, art galleries or even zoos. put your knowledge of Asian history (from watching discovery Channel or the National Geographic) to good use. There's nothing better than appearing intellectual & sophisticated. Cost: Entrance fees only.

6. Offer to accompany her shopping or running errands. A guy carrying his girlfriends shopping bags looks charming. Show that you're one of the few guys with the patience to tag along on shopping trips. Cost: Free, unless you offer to pay for her purchases.

7.Sports is a good way to show your fun and adventurous side. Go swimming at the community pool, or walk your dog inside your village if she is fond of dogs.

Php 100.00 and below

8. Hang out at your village park. bring some chips and a bottle of Coke and relive your childhood days by riding the see-saw, playing basketball, or flying a kite. Or go on a picnic and wait for the sunset. Cost: Php 50.00 for the chips and drinks

9. Jogging, then have breakfast at McDonalds or Jollibee. Cost: Php 100.00 Extra cost-cutting tip: Settle for hot chocolate.

10. Have some isaw or squidballs. Cost Php 100.00 including buko juice. To cut cost in half, don't buuy anything for yourself and just eat at home.

Under Php 500.00

11. If you do have to go out, check if your favorite restaurants have any ongoing promos. A free appetizer is better than nothing at all. Also, most eating places have free balloons or roses on Valentine's Day that you can give to your date.

Variation: Borrow your friends discount cards if they're transferable. A 10% discount can mean a lot.

If you're on a low budget, just order a salad for yourself, and stuff yourself at home. Always order tap water. iced tea can set you back by as much as Php 80.00.

If you're broke, go out for coffee instead of dinner.

Keep in mind that dates don't always have to be expensive. The important thing is that you both have a great time. You need not be swept along side all the Valentine's Day flurry, even reserving a table at some ritzy restaurant. After all, aren't the best things in life free?
