DTAP Vaccine

DTAP Vaccine are compose of 3 vaccines in 1 shot. The 3 vaccines are diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. It's given as a series of 5 shots.

Diphtheria is a disease that attacks the throat and heart. It can lead to heart failure. Diphtheria can be transmitted through close contacts via airborne respiratory droplets. It can also spread by objects with contaminated by the infected person.

Tetanus, also known as lockjaw, is a serious but preventable disease that affects the nerves and muscles. This can be transmitted through open wound or cut. Wounds contaminated with soil, saliva, or skin punctures from nonsterile needles are also at high risk.

Pertusis, also known as whooping cough, it is a disease that infects the respiratory system. It is usually gives the symptoms of coughing with a "whooping" sound when it is breath in.We can avoid this by knowing some of simple symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, mild cough, and low fever. You can observe your child for about 1 to 2 weeks, if your child has dry and irritating cough it usually evolves into coughing spells. This usually last for more than a minute, it makes your child turn red or purple. At the end of the a spell, the child may make a characteristic of whooping sound when breathing in or may vomit. And between this stage the child usually feels well.


DTAP has mild side effects when injected to children. It causes fever, soreness in the injected part and sometimes it cause decreased appetite to the children.

Remember you should not give your child the DTAP vaccine when your child has mild cold or other sickness.
